Following the Challenge, Seniors and European Tour events, the Ladies European Tour staged its first tournament at Oitavos Dunes in June 2006. The course was setup to a par-72 (normally a par 71) with the long par 4 17th being transformed into a par 5.

The final day saw an interesting battle between French ladies Stephanie Arricau and 2006 order of Merit winner Gwladys Nocera on the front nine. However, Arricau played an amazing back nine, seven-under-par 29, to leave Nocera trailing by 5 at the end of the day.
